Businessman gives toys to Boys & Girls Club

About $5,700 worth of toys has been donated to the Nappanee Boys & Girls Club, 107 E. Marion St., to benefit young members of the club.

The donation came in the form of 250 toy vehicles – including dump trucks, SAT vehicles, sanitation trucks and HUMMERs. some had the added attraction of remote control or sound effects.

Tom Stout, owner of Burston Marketing, Inc. in Elkhart, made the donation. This is the second year that Stout has taken the City of Nappanee and its residents, under his wing during the Christmas holiday season.

Last year Stout donated hundreds of dollars in clothing to Nappanee Open Door for distribution to the families helped through the program.

"This year I wanted to help the kids," said Stout.

His close friend, Bobbie Wilson, suggested Stout make a donation to the Nappanee Boys & Girls Club. Wilson is a Nappanee resident and founding board member of the club.

The Wednesday toy donation was embraced with open arms by Mandy Gerber, Program Director at the Nappanee Boys & Girls Club.

"It just really means so much," said Gerber, "giving our kids an opportunity to receive a great surprise like this. It's really neat to help the kids like this when times are bad for the families (with jobs and the economy.)"

For others wishing to contribute to the club, and its young members, monetary donations can be made and sent to: Nappanee Boys and Girls Club, P.O. Box 6, Nappanee, IN 46550.

The club is in need of funding for programs, supplies and sports equipment.
